| Approved Governors minutes from
Summer 2009 PREMISES: Fox have been awarded a £50000 grant by the Environment Agency for photo-voltaic solar panels on the school roof. A matching £50K grant is to be sought from the National Lottery to allow the project to go ahead. If approved this will be the 2nd largest solar panel installation in London and would save around half the typical £30K we spend on electricity each year. Current could be soldback to the grid during holidays. SCHOOL PROSPECTUS: final details approved. Agreed to print, as well as publish on line, at a cost of £2000. FUND RAISING: FSA draft letter reminding parents of the benefits of regular donations by direct debit to be sent out. A more direct appeal will be used for specific projects which may arise. HEAD TEACHER’S REPORT: Paul Cotter was able to report positively in all main areas. Staff turnover and relative youth was a source of some parent governor concern. PC pointed out though that half the school teaching staff had over 6 years experience and that new recruits were of a very high standard. The Deputy Head will no longer have a class based g role from September which also caused concern. Emma Madden pointed out that this was connected with Assistant Head, Jenny Hounslow , leaving for Australia without an immediate replacement. However EM would still do some teaching, working alongside other staff. EXTENDED SCHOOLS/PLAY CENTRE: despite the extra work for Fox, running the play centre jointly with the Local Authority had been a huge success, and target income had been exceeded, even after discounts for families needing support. CURRICULUM: the school is starting to think about the implications of the Rose review - and a 2nd large report from Cambridge on primary schools is due in October. The Fox summer sports week had been a particular success - thanks to Ollie Millett. SCHOOL MEALS: Governors praised the quality, though 18% of respondents to a parent and carer questionnaire disagreed. PC confirmed menus being reviewed - governors suggested asking pupils for their favourite and least favourite dishes. GOVERNORS’ TERMS OF OFFICE: due to a change in regulations which came into force 4 years ago no less than 5 governors terms of office expired at the end of August. The 3 LA governors Tina Villarosa, Andrew Sutcliffe & Adrian de Segundo have been reappointed and following elections we can now welcome one new staff and 2 parent governors, Lindsay Harrison, Stephanie Lvovich & Nicholas Vester. USE OF SCHOOL ON SATURDAYS: it appears that the music school will close due to a cut in funds. Governors considered the Greek school’s request to use Fox premises while Holland Park is rebuilt. As this involved using 13 classrooms with children from 6 – 16, Governors felt disruption would be too much Fox for to accommodate, as well as interfering with occasional other Saturday activities - eg Carnival. |

| Lost property Please can you make sure you label all of your children’s clothes. We have an enormous amount of lost property which never gets collected. If the clothes were properly labelled/marked we would be able to give back to the children. |

| Walk to School Week - Ann Kendrick
author visiting As part of our walk to school week we have invited Anne Kendrick OBE, ex Fox pupil and author of ‘Let me Out: How to Enjoy the School Run, to host a walk to school breakfast on Friday 16th. She will be accompanied by Councillor Mrs Frazer. All Fox children and parents are invited to have breakfast in the school hall from 8am. Breakfast will include cereal, porridge, Yoghurt and juice. Exotic fruit is mentioned on the flyer, but because we are a ‘green’ school, this does not fit in with our sustainable schools status. |
|||
| Black History Week at Fox We are celebrating black history month during the week on the 19th October. All classes will look at the theme of journeys and celebrate black history and culture throughout the week. We are starting the week with a theatre group looking at the Windrush experience, have a Pete and Nat working with Year 5 looking at the origins of jazz and many other organised events. |
|||
| Text messaging We have started texting parents if their child/ren are absent from school and we haven’t had a reason reported. Please be aware, that if your child is late, they must be registered in the late book or reported to the office. This is to ensure that they get a mark in the register and you will not receive a text. |

| Cross Country – Well done I would like to say a public well done to all the Fox children who participated in the Regional London Youth Game mini marathon trials at Holland Park. Twelve children from Fox competed against children from other schools in the borough and all of them did very well. A special mention to Sebastian from Year 5, who qualified to represent Kensington and Chelsea in the Mini London Marathon in March. A great achievement considering he was competing against 13 year olds. The next Seb Coe in the making! |

| On the running theme………. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Mrs Marsden! On Sunday 11th October, Mrs Marsden (3/2M class teacher) is running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for the charity UNICEF. She is trying to raise a grand total of £550 pounds and would be really grateful for your sponsorship. If you would like to contribute online, follow the JustGiving link, otherwise please see her in person. Thank you! http://www.justgiving.com/Miriam-Marsden/ |
