Course Details

This half day course offers an exciting opportunity to learn about the Bar Model and to work closely with teachers from other schools.

This course looks at how the Bar Model could be used in KS1 and KS2 to promote conceptual understanding of number objectives.  This project will also expose teachers to resources and planning associated with the Bar Model.

There will be the opportunity to examine how the bar model can support understanding of the four operations and the inverse relationships between them.  Linked to this there will also be the chance to explore the Bar Model as a representation when problem solving or introducing algebra.




The course will include:

  • Exploring the different types of bar models
  • How to use bar models to support the four operations
  • How to use bar model to support understanding of fractions
  • Progression in reasoning and understanding
  • Exposure to high quality planning
  • Exposure to high quality resources
